FOUR PENCE

Originally studying product and furniture design, what started as a simple quarantine project turned into a thriving jewellery brand. With nothing but time and a bag of old English 3 pence coins passed down from his grandfather, Rufus set out to create something meaningful drilling holes into the coins, turning them into necklaces and bracelets. The spark was lit. Through trial, error, and an unrelenting drive, Rufus taught himself everything from soldering to casting, using everyday materials like building bricks as makeshift tools.

Inspiration comes from the textures of nature and forgotten 19th-century techniques like the star-setting method, once used to enhance the sparkle of gemstones. Each piece is built around an idea that evolves as the work unfolds. The materials themselves guide the design, shifting in size, shape, and form. It’s a fluid process, where intuition and experimentation take the lead, making every piece a unique reflection of Rufus's creative journey.

Sustainability is woven into the very fabric of the brand. Every piece is crafted with 100% recycled 925 sterling silver and gold, and set with lab-grown gemstones which capture the same appearance as natural gemstones, but without the environmental or ethical cost. By using materials that are both sustainable and captivating, Four Pence ensures that each creation is as kind to the planet as it is to the wearer.
